What Yankees want from No. 1 prospect Spencer Jones, who is headed to Double-A Somerset

The Yankees promoted their No. 1 prospect on Sunday to the Double-A Somerset Patriots.

Jones’ promotion was in the works since last week when the Yankees promoted their other touted outfield prospects, Everson Pereira from Triple-A to the majors and Jasson Dominguez from Somerset to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Jones, 22, earned his climb to Double-A. In 100 games with Hudson Valley, the left-handed hitter batted .268 with 13 homers, 56 RBI, 35 steals and a .787 OPS.“Organizationally, I think we’re really excited about his future,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone said before Sunday’s game against the Rays. “It’s been a good first full year for him.”

Jones, has been compared to Yankees captain Aaron Judge because they are similar in size, plans on becoming a household name, too.it’s to be a great major league player,” Jones told NJ Advance Media’s Max Goodman earlier this summer. “I want to be remembered as my own player. I don’t want to be in somebody else’s shadow.”
