During the 2022 summer Conservative leadership campaign, Sunak announced a raft of plans to stamp out VAWG, saying: “As a father of two girls, I want them to be able to go for a walk in the evening or to a shop at night without any fear of threat.”that his manifesto for women would be built to “ensure women and girls enjoy the same freedom most males take for granted in feeling safe from assault and abuse”.
And during a later debate, he pointed out his previous pledges, money-wise, announced a commitment to end grooming gangs and introduced the phrase “downblousing”, saying that as prime minister he would crack down on those taking images down people’s tops without their consent. “I will not stop until we live in a society where women and girls can go about their daily lives feeling safe and secure,” he said.
