'What Weekly Rituals Should You Master?' projectmanagement agile
Today, I'd like to cover the weekly life of a project manager. When I'm managing a project, these are the things I do every week:. Do you have a goal that is less than a month away? If not, make one up as soon as you can. Talk about the next milestone every meeting with the team.. Schedule an hour or two every Friday to review and update your project plan.Send a weekly project update
Why a month, as opposed to something sooner or later? The short answer is that this is what I've seen both with my own experience, and with evidence from some limited data I've seen.
I then go through further out into the future, but with a little less fidelity the further out we get. Usually I invite someone representing product, technical leadership, and design. I also add time-based events that are relevant to the delivery of the project. For example, vacation time, on-call schedules, and offsites.
If I see fractional allocation of "resources" in a project, I typically scream, take a lighter out of my bag, set my hair on fire, and run out of the room. The fewer projects you're managing, the better you'll do with them, so that's another argument for teams focusing on fewer projects. If we had to bet this month's salary on this project going well, what are things we would be worrying about right now?
This tweet summarized a lot of the things I've learned over the years about writing concise, readable updates. It also features some wonderful examples, so I strongly recommend

U.S. weekly jobless claims increase; layoffs hit 16-month high in JuneWASHINGTON (Reuters) -The number of Americans filing new claims for unemployment benefits unexpectedly rose last week and there are growing signs that demand for labor is cooling, with layoffs surging to a 16-month high in June as the Federal Reserve's aggressive monetary policy tightening stokes recession fears. But the weekly jobless claims data from the Labor Department on Thursday was likely distorted by Monday's Independence Day holiday, which resulted in several states, including California, submitting estimates. 'This is what the Fed wants, but it needs to be orderly to avoid an increase in recession risks,' said Ryan Sweet, a senior economist at Moody's Analytics in West Chester, Pennsylvania.
