Among police tips: Never pick up discarded drug items unless you are wearing gloves.
After several recent incidents of young people finding plastic baggies containing possible drug residue, Nanaimo RCMP have issued some basic safety tips about proper handling and disposal.
Drugs currently being used on the streets are toxic, and could cause a severe or even life-threatening reaction if mishandled or accidentally inhaled, said Reserve Const. Gary O’Brien.Police tips include:• Place any items in a baggie with a seal, and if possible discard them in a garbage bag and tie it shut so they can’t be seen.
• If you are using a tool or something that may be used again to get at an item, be sure to decontaminate it.
