playing the Treehouse Stage at 2:15 p.m.

“We’ve made our cultural stamp on Philadelphia. People know us, people see Sam walking down the street and go ‘Snacktime!’ That happens all the time when they see his tuba.” Gellerstein was teaching music in Philly public schools when Dan McLaughlin of Mission Taqueria invited him to get a band together for a Friendsgiving party in November 2019.

Lockdown “was the death knell” for that concept, Gellerstein says. But as the shutdown stretched on, he started thinking about outdoor performance. Starting at 12th and Sansom, “we would march through all the outdoor dining, and then park ourselves in front of Parc on Rittenhouse,” Stocker says. Crowds grew, and the band started bringing in $1200-$1500 a night.
