When requesting “chocolate cherry” at the salon, a client with a deep brunette base can expect to receive a series of red-violet glosses fine-tuned to what will get the hair to that perfect tinge of crimson, says Perry. And to maintain the color at home, she recommends carefully cocktailing red- and brunette-based color-depositing shampoo and conditioner to keep the color vibrant and vivid.
