The season’s most-talked-about garment? The extra-long overcoat. Many brushed ankles; some swept floors. In dark, solid shades at Saint Laurent and Gucci, these elongated examples were stately, elegant and dramatic. Less clear: How they will fare in the real world, when they hang off average-size mortals, not long-limbed models. One stylist friend announced, half-seriously, that he feared these coats would make his shorter clients look like kids who’d raided their dads’ closets.
