President Cyril Ramaphosa literally weathered a storm to speak at an ANC Siyanqoba rally in Thokoza Park, Soweto, on Friday. Before his arrival, the community in various parts of Soweto took to the streets to protest about a lack of service delivery. However, by the time he reached the venue and ascended the stage to deliver his final speech before the election tomorrow, calm had been restored.
Residents in areas where the ANC will win the majority of votes will have to wait a while before they know who their mayors will be after the elections. Although the Electoral Commission of SA plans to complete the counting of votes by Thursday, the ANC will embark on a long process that starts with mayoral candidates being interviewed this week before the names are ratified during a meeting of the national executive committee, which will sit on November 13.
