Veteran journalist Freek Robinson’s nomination to receive a national order was withdrawn by the presidency after complaints were received that he had been “an apartheid-era broadcaster” for the old SABC.
Adventurer Mike Horn’s nomination was also withdrawn, following complaints about his military career in the controversial 101 Battalion during the Angolan bush war.Former AmaZulu FC communications manager Phumlani Dube allegedly pushed a woman colleague with his index finger multiple times until she fell to the ground and bust her lip open. As she sat, crying on the ground, he allegedly hurled insults at her and told her to stop tripping herself.In September 2019, Mogalakwena was one of 12 municipalities that appeared before Parliament’s standing committee on public accounts after consistently receiving disclaimer audit opinions. Scopa listed a lack of political leadership, inadequate capacity and poor or nonexistent systems, human resource challenges, reluctance to cooperate with auditors, and an absence of consequence management as reasons for the municipality’s chaotic financial state.
