The meeting of the Liaison Committee, which will include scrutiny in numerous policy areas and is likely to stretch over several hours, will take place on the final afternoon the Commons is sitting before a Christmas recess lasting almost three weeks. A majority of the 14 MPs taking part in the committee are Conservatives – but in the past, members have shown themselves willing to savage leaders from their own party just as much as the opposition.
