Death knell for Theresa May’s Brexit deal as lawmakers reject it by 286 to 344

. The vote came on the day the United Kingdom was supposed to leave the EU, something hundreds of people who voted to leave the EU marked with a noisy protest outside parliament as MPs voted. Many had marched 450 kilometres from Sunderland to London and as they reached Westminster they shouted, “Leave means leave.”

The country’s future now looks more uncertain than ever. Ms. May has until April 12 to either seek another extension from EU leaders or crash out of the bloc without a deal. On Monday, MPs will begin voting on various options including a second referendum on Brexit, negotiating a customs union with the EU or revoking Brexit.Ms. May’s political future is also in question.

During Friday’s debate on the agreement, Ms. May implored MPs to finally approve it. “Today we can give the public and businesses the certainty they need,” she said. “Today we can show that we can come together in the national interest. … If you want to deliver Brexit, this is the moment. If you are passionate about making sure the UK leaves the EU, back this motion. If you are about the union and a deal that protects it, back this motion.

However, once again the Prime Minister was let down by fellow Conservative party MPs. While many rebel Tories, including former foreign secretary Boris Johnson and Jacob Rees-Mogg, had dropped their opposition to the agreement, a core group just couldn’t stomach it."Why would you want to hold your nose and vote for something that was so against your instincts and against the interests of the British people?” rebel Tory MP Sir Christopher Chope told the House.
