Trash, postal service and most government offices `closed for Juneteenth
has become a national holiday honoring Black freedom. Many private employers joined the public sector this year in giving their workers the day off.
Federal and state offices and courts will be closed Monday for the holiday. And for the first time, all Houston and Harris County departments will shutter in honor of Juneteenth. Normal business hours will resume on Tuesday. Local Metro transit service will operate normally Monday, one of the few municipal services that will continue to do so.due to the closure of all solid waste facilities and recycling centers. Monday's garbage will be collected on Tuesday, the city agency said on its website.
Bus riders should take note: while public transit services will follow a usual Monday schedule on Juneteenth, Metro Lift reservations and Metro customer service will close in observance of the holiday. All U.S. Postal Service offices also will close, meaning no collections or deliveries of regular mail. Some Priority Express mail may be delivered, the federal agency said.
