My favorite tradition will always be steaming fat goh together. These celebratory cupcakes, often referred to as prosperity cakes or fortune cakes, are steamed rather than baked. Growing up we used fresh rice flour from Chinatown in the batter and my mom would add in a few drops of bright pink food coloring at the end for a festive look. She taught me the best ones will burst out of the cupcake liners and split down the middle into a few sections.
