Gracie's on West Main calls it Project 32.
Service charges are a growing trend at restaurants around the country. The fees often go toward covering the increasing costs of food and beverages. Now, a Lancaster County establishment is updating its menu to reflect something similar.Allyson Andrews has been working as a server at Gracie's on West Main for five years. She enjoys the job. And when the restaurant owners decided to offer staff members paid time off, health benefits and a 401k, she wanted to know more.
'The restaurant in Leola is calling the initiative Project 32.'Every menu item is going to end in 32 cents because that 32 cents is going to go back to our staff,' owner Jim Rutolo said. They want customers to know their prices may be higher than their competitors, but there's good reason.'A lot of that price difference is what's happening behind the scenes. It's the pay rates. It's the quality of the life that the owner's providing, the services, the benefits.
