On the other hand, it’s not uncommon for politicians to find a common ground with constituents to gain support. In this case, it happens to be with race. No, it does not. It should, but it does not. It does, however, speak to how deeply our conversations about our culture have become inseparably intertwined with our conversations about our politics. And our global past has repeatedly taught us the dangers of that.This tells us everything about politics and nothing about culture. Politically, Democrats are about “we” and Republicans are about “me.” That is why a Democrat will always be consistent and a Republican will change when it suits them.
