Westlake and other suburbs have reported an increase in shootings involving BB or pellet guns that might be tied to a viral TikTok challenge.
WESTLAKE, Ohio --
. The challenge involves shooting at someone with a pellet gun -- typically one that fires gel-ball pellets -- and posting a video of the act on social media. On March 5, several males in an SUV shot a woman with a BB gun as she stood outside Aveda Salon. On March 12, five males shot a 14-year-old girl with a BB gun near World Market. And on March 13, two males shot a 13-year-old girl in the face with a BB gun in front of Regal Crocker Park & IMAX, according to the reports.On Feb. 22, juveniles in a black Jeep shot a man with a BB gun as he jogged through Clague Park.
Vogel said detectives are working to identify more of the culprits so they can be prosecuted. Police have been targeting areas where is a high amount of foot traffic, which could attract those who are shooting the BB and pellet guns, Vogel said.
