Western Cape Education MEC David Maynier announced the allocation of 400 additional teaching posts to schools experiencing significant increases in pupil numbers. This comes amidst the non-renewal of over 2,400 contract teacher posts due to budget cuts from National Treasury. The department has employed nearly 35,000 educators this year, with over 1.2 million pupils enrolled in public schools. Maynier emphasized the importance of providing resources to accommodate new and existing learners, noting the completion of nine new schools and 265 classrooms this year.
CAPE TOWN - Western Cape Education MEC David Maynier said that more than 400 additional teaching posts had been made available to schools with a significant increase in pupils numbers.
The provincial department has employed nearly 35,000 educators this year, with more than 1.2 million pupils enrolled in public schools. He said that through further budget reprioritisation, they'd created 477 new teacher posts for schools showing significant growth in pupil numbers and new schools.
