Beth Culshaw, chair of West Dunbartonshire’s HSCP, has responded to concerns raised in the Lennox - saying that the redesign is still to be fully implemented and once rolled out, “will strengthen our service and ensure we have a model of care that is fit for purpose, robust and meets the growing needs of our residents”.
West Dunbartonshire’s health and social care chief has moved to calm fears about a crisis in home care.
Speaking to the Lennox, Beth says that she is confident that the pressures will ease on staff and clients - with a recruitment drive underway. “West Dunbartonshire Health and Social Care Partnership, like other authorities, is experiencing a shortage of critical home care workers and there is an ongoing recruitment campaign to attract new carers to the service.“We are committed to supporting our carers and understand that many of our colleagues have worked and are working extra hours to support the service and those we serve.
They said the “pressure and anxiety” is leaving them “filled with dread and fear” turning on their work phones at the start of every shift. Carers also hit out at plans to move them away from long-held Monday-Friday contracts and onto a seven day rota, with Ms Culshaw explaining the rationale behind the move.
