The 125m-long vessel was en route to Dar es Salaam in Tanzania when it developed an excessive list as a result of stormy weather.South African Maritime Safety Authority spokesperson Tebogo Ramatjie said the grounded ship had broken into four sections during severe weather over the weekend.Clean-up operations started on Monday.
"Clean-up teams, comprising salvors and 125 local community members, have been diligently working to remove the oil that washed up onto the beach, covering an area of approximately one kilometre south of the wreck," he said."Because the oil has congealed into tar balls, it is making it easier to collect it from the sand.
