Wayne Sivyer has batted off remarks about loving sheep, Gavin and Stacey references and says one local thought Wales was abroad
A former NHS worker from Wales who moved to Blackpool six years ago says he has been left incensed at the "unbelievable" stereotypes he still receives about the Welsh.
A dumbfounded Wayne says one Blackpool local even thought Wales was abroad and that he had to catch a plane when he made visits home. Fed-up Wayne, of Penygroes near Caernarfon, says it's been a surprise that so many stereotypes continue.Speaking to North Wales Live, he said: "After moving here in 2017 I have heard things that have been what I can only describe as unbelievable. It seems that all some residents of Blackpool know about the Welsh people is that they are ‘sheep lovers’.
Sadly, things got worse at his next job at a bank. Wayne said: "There was constant bullying, my car was vandalised and I was asked 'Why move up here to work, have they no jobs on the farm?' He administered Covid jabs at Blackpool's Winter Gardens among other work and was asked things like "Can you say the long Welsh town name" and Have you climbed Snowdon? ".
