. UNFOspreys struck first in baseball's RiverCityRumble on Friday night, with a big contribution from a newcomer who got his start just west of the First Coast.
The UNF eighth was a microcosm of the game: scratch out some baserunners, then get a big hit.
In taking leads of 5-0 and 6-2, UNF collected four infield hits and reached on two JU errors, but also got a solo homer from Dallen Leach in the second and a two-run double by Edge later in the inning. The Dolphins fought back with two runs in the third on sophomore Elias Flowers’ RBI double and an error, another in the fifth when Flowers belted his first home run as a college player.
Chappell came in with runners on second and third and one out and escaped on Grabsky’s grounder and a fly out to Edge. He allowed only two more baserunners the rest of the game. “We needed some left-handed help out of the bullpen,” Parenton said, who plans to utilize Chappell more in that role after starting six games. “He’s got some juice out there. He came in a threw strikes, and when he does that, he’s an excellent pitcher.”
In four relief appearances, Chappell has allowed only two earned runs, three hits and seven walks in 9.2 innings, with seven strikeouts.
