To catch up readers up to speed, the North Carolina congressman likened Washington, D.C. to “House of Cards” with baseless allegations that his colleagues are doing “key bumps” of cocaine in front of him and inviting him to orgies. Naturally, that drew the ire of other House Republicans — who wanted McCarthy to take action against Cawthorn.
Now, it seems that the California Republican leader has reprimanded the firebrand lawmaker, and the details surrounding their reportedly brief exchange have gotten stranger by the minute. Politico reporter Olivia Beaversearly Wednesday that the two, along with House Minority Whip Steve Scalise, R-La., met for a half-hour. During that meeting, Beavers reported, McCarthy expressed losing trust in Cawthorn.
