The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a weather advisory for extremely hot and uncomfortable conditions in parts of the Cape. Temperatures of around 30ºC and 40ºC are expected for the third consecutive week, posing a risk of hyperthermia.
Seemingly like clockwork, weather forecasts for parts of the Cape are expecting temperatures of around 30ºC and 40ºC for the third consecutive week. In light of this, the South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a weather advisory for extremely hot and uncomfortable conditions.
According to the weather service, very hot and uncomfortable weather conditions are expected in places over the interior of the West Coast District, Drakenstein municipality and places over the central Karoo tomorrow. ‘These conditions are expected to extend to the greater part of the Western Cape and Namakwa District on Monday and persist over the eastern interior on Tuesday where extremely hot temperatures are expected,’ advised SAWS. ‘Day-time temperatures are expected to reach the high 30s and/or low 40s in their respective areas on these days.’ In terms of weather-based impacts, these extremely high temperatures pose a risk of hyperthermia as a result of people’s reduced ability to cool their bodies through sweating
