The Brown Cow is a finalist in the Great British Pub Awards
It was not long after 9pm when the heavens opened over South Liverpool. Sitting in the beer garden at The Brown Cow in Gateacre, my friends and I took refuge under the wooden roof of one of its many outdoor booths.
As well as the plentiful seating options, the garden is also home to a 700lb statue of a brown cow, in case you forget the name of the pub you're in. No longer is that the case. Though it was not at its vibrant best on Thursday, playing host to a few groups of drinkers and an understated birthday party, it has become a very pleasant place to drink.
