ICYMI: We speak to the local DJ who gets to play alongside Black Coffee and more at Ultra SA
DJ Nkanyezi from Durban has been announced as the winner of Budweiser's King of Decks competition, which bills itself as South Africa's most significant online DJ search.
As part of his prize, the talented young man will perform at Ultra SA's Main Stage, in Johannesburg on 29 February, alongside some of the world's best DJ's including Afrojack, Black Coffee, DJ Snake and Steve Aoki. Launched in December, the resulting flood of entries via Soundcloud were narrowed down to the top 3 finalists by judges DJ Oskido, DJ Sabby and Durban Gogo. The DJ finalists then battled against each other live on Yfm'sFor those who might have missed it Ultra SA will take place at The Ostrich Farm, Cape Town on Friday, 28 February and at Johannesburg Expo Centre , on Saturday, 29 February.
about his journey so far: From when he knew that he loved hitting the decks to who he wants to perform with next.What was the moment that got you into DJing? About 5 years ago, I got the opportunity to play at one of the biggest clubs in Soweto to a vast crowd. Through all the excitement, adrenaline pumping and shaking hands, I knew 'this is what I wanted to do.'It's so hard to answer. DJ Snake, Afrojack and Steve Aoki are some of the greatest DJs. I think each one of them brings something different to their sets, so I have to say I'm excited to see all of them.
