'We're hopeful': Alberta farming conditions significantly better after dry 2021 season

Tom Steve, general manager of the Alberta Wheat and Barley Commissions, said around 74 per cent of major crops — including wheat, barley, canola and post-crops such as peas and lentils — are considered to be in good to excellent condition this year. In 2021, Steve said just under 20 per cent of major crops were considered the same.

Shelby Blosky, owner of Double S Ranch Cattle Co., said it’s been a better year for cattle farmers as well. Blosky said her farm, which is about 107 kilometres southwest of Edmonton near Breton, is “holding on.”
