shot down speculation they are at odds with each another over a potential coalition with the ANC . Meanwhile, the IFP has asked Mayor Gabrielle Malembe to resign for spearheading an arrangement with the ANC that propelled him to the hot seat in the Umvoti Municipality.

Hlabisa and provincial chairperson Thami Ntuli spoke exclusively to News24 this week, denying speculation the two were on polar opposites over potentially accepting the ANC as a coalition partner. Without informing their national executive committee leaders, Umvoti IFP councillors worked with their ANC counterparts to oust the ABC from council leadership in a special sitting last week.

A source told News24 Malembe was among a group of IFP politicians who were pushing for Hlabisa's ousting last year. Ntuli considered working with the ANC and Malembe. But Hlabisa doesn't like Malembe as he wanted Hlabisa out.Hlabisa said the decision taken by the IFP to ask Malembe to resign and to reverse the decision to work with the ANC was proof the party was not considering coalition talks with the party.All I know is when I heard it, we said: 'mayor, step down'.
