Kate Ward, 39, and her husband injected colour into their 'white-walled' home and gave the garden a grand makeover
When it comes to deciding what type of house you want to buy, there are pros and cons to both new builds and older properties. Whilst some people prefer the traditional features of a Victorian or Edwardian house, others want the ease and 'blank canvas' that comes with a newly built home.
Kate, who is originally from Merseyside, has only ever lived in new-builds but said she had an open-mind when it came to searching for her third home. "When this house came on the market it ticked all of our boxes. It was perfect for what we wanted as a couple and we fell in love with it straight away," said Kate, who works as a pharmacist.
"The biggest job we’ve done inside is change two of our bathrooms. What was fitted when the house was built wasn't really in keeping with our style so we changed our main bathroom and en-suite. “I do like the use of bold colours, I think that’s evident throughout my house. I also like mixing modern with older touches, I like upcycling furniture and buying accessories from charity shops."
"The main side that we use is the side from the kitchen as it's become an extension of our living space. We have bi-fold doors that lead out onto a decking that my husband built himself entirely from scratch as well as pergolas he built on both sides. It’s a lovely relaxing space for us as well as a good entertaining space."
"To the right we have a downstairs cloakroom toilet and a dual-aspect living room which spans the entire length of the house to the front and the back with French doors that open out onto a decking area and patio.
