“It is stressful and emotionally draining. You feel bad because you don’t have the time to look after them the way you want to'
A home care worker in Glasgow has told of the impact service cuts are having on looking after older people in the city.
The worker said: “We are practically burnt out. We all get more clients added and you don’t get to spend as much time with them as you’d like to when it is someone who you might be the only person they see.”They said: “It is less about quality of care.“We are all worried about where it is going to lead. We are worried about the clients because some of them are poor souls.”
“Some are bed bound and can’t live without our assistance, they rely on us for everything but we can’t spend an extra 10 minutes with them.”The carer added: “We can have 20 minutes for someone to get them washed, dressed, helped to the toilet, give their breakfast and medication."It is a lot of work. Some people are doing 70 hours a week. People are demoralised.
