In a recent earnings call, WBD CEO David Zaslav confirms the studio is still interested in working with J.K. Rowling on more HarryPotter projects 👀 'We haven’t done a Harry Potter movie in 15 years... if we can do something with JK...' 😮

Warner Bros. Discovery says the company is open to creating more Harry Potter projects from J.K. Rowling. Originally written as a series of seven books by Rowling, the Harry Potter franchise has skyrocketed into one of the highest-grossing media franchises of all time over the past several decades. The book series spawned eight films, a spinoff film series, a two-part play, and more.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY While the seven Harry Potter novels and eight adapted films were a massive global success, all has not been well in the Wizarding World. The spinoff film series Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, which starred Eddie Redmayne and Jude Law, has a history of poor performance and critical reception. To date, The Secrets of Dumbledore box office holds the title of the lowest opening of any Harry Potter film, garnering $42.

We’re going to have a real focus on franchises. We haven’t had a ‘Superman’ movie in 13 years. We haven’t done a ‘Harry Potter’ movie in 15 years. The DC movies and the ‘Harry Potter’ movies provided a lot of the profits of Warner Bros. Motion Pictures over the last 25 years.

Should Warner Bros. Leave Harry Potter Alone? Though Harry Potter is one of the highest-grossing franchises in history, its newest additions have been performing considerably worse than the original series of books and films.

Though the relative failure of Fantastic Beasts is certainly something for Warner Bros. to keep in mind as they look toward new HP projects, it isn't poor writing or actor trouble that's negatively impacting the franchise the most - it's Rowling's divisive and controversial comments. Even if the studio creates a brand-new, exciting Harry Potter project, Rowling's anti-trans commentary has cost the franchise many loyal fans, who no longer want to support her work.
