JSE-listed real estate investment trust Attacq, the developer of Waterfall City in Gauteng, has achieved a Level 1 contributor status towards Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment after improving its rating in key elements of the scorecard, it announced on Thursday. The new rating means the property counter has attained 100 points on the generic scorecard, helping it attain a recognition Level of 135%. In 2021, Attacq had achieved a Level 3 B-BBEE contributor rating.
“This achievement is a reflection of our commitment to diversity and inclusion and underscores our ambition of driving growth and transformation in the South African economy,” she adds. Countries in DR Congo to Prep for Crucial COP27 Climate SummitUN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in his address to the climate change summit via video link from the UN's New York headquarters, urged the international community to reach a "quantum level compromise" between wealthy countries responsible for much of humanity's carbon emissions and poorer countries that often feel climate change's effects most profoundly. Delegates from over 50 countries are attending the summit in Kinshasa, DR Congo. Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry stressed the need for more money - specifically mentioning a promise originally dating back to COP15 in Copenhagen in 2009, to provide developing countries with U.S.$100 billion (€101.7 billion) per year for projects to combat climate change. The hosts' Environment Minister Bazaiba told Reuters news agency before the talks that because "the G20 is responsible for 80% of the pollution in the world, ... the real debate of this pre-COP and COP27 is the responsibility of the polluting countries." The main outcome of the previous COP was the pledge to try to limit global warming to 2 degrees Celsius versus pre-industrial era levels. Egypt has said the main focus of COP27 should be on implementing this pledge.
