Watch stunning 50th anniversary video for DavidBowieReal's 'Space Oddity (2019 Mix)'
at a NASA event at the Kennedy Center in Washington on Saturday night in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 landing on the moon. The event also marked the golden anniversary of the song that chronicles the outer space adventures of star-crossed astronaut Maj. Tom.
The stunning visual directed by Tim Pope mixes footage of a red-haired Bowie performing the song at his 50th birthday concert at MSG in 1997 along with footage shot by Edouard Lock for the backdrop screen on the singer's 1990 Sound & Vision tour. The accompanying audio is a new mix of the song created by Bowie's longtime producer, Tony Visconti. The new audio mix was released on July 12 as part of a 50th anniversary double 7" box set.
The arresting clip mixes film of Bowie performing the song solo acoustic with artsy film of his face in black and white profile strutting across the screen wearing a dark suit and towering blonde pompadour. Bowie died on Jan. 10, 2016 at age 69 two days after the release of his 25th studio album,
