Watch how the battle went down at the latest Creative Rides auction for a rare 1957 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint Veloce Conrero Race edition. | News24Motoring
According to, this Giulietta Sprint Veloce rolled off the line at the Bertone plant in Grugliasco, Italy, on 16 July 1957. This car is an official factory lightweight, weighing in at a scant 780kg, the"750E" was 100kg lighter than the 750B and was built to take on Porsche in the 1300 Class 'European' races where previous models were left wanting.
Only less than 200 of these cars were ever built, making this model one of the rarest in the world - and also explains why it achieved such a high bid at the recent Creative Rides auction.Creative Rides also says lightweight aluminium doors, boot lid, and bonnet also helped reduce the weight, even with a larger fuel tank. The 'raciness' didn't stop there.
The suspension, brakes, and all other go-faster bits were also upgraded, including the dynamic bodywork, built in-house in 1959. This was based on combining the Zagato and BAT 7 front end to become more aerodynamically efficient. "This 'one-of-one' Alfa Romeo certainly looks striking. In the metal, it has a presence that packs a punch far higher than its small size", says Creative Rides CEO Kevin Derrick.
The car comes from an extensive collection owned by collector Jannie Geldenhuis. Jannie restored the car over seven years, starting in 2005, with its first long-distance trip in 2012. A thorough and detailed nut and bolt restoration account is also on file. It has been a super fun and fast-drivable vehicle used for road trips, track days, breakfast runs, and car shows, the most recent being a drive to and from the 2023 George Motor show.In times of uncertainty you need journalism you can trust.
