Motshekga described the class of 2022 as a unique group that had emerged victoriously and stood firm in the face of adversity.When the putrid smell of failure was intense, you people seemed unacquainted with the concept of failure. History will record that to be a top matric pupil in 2022 was no mean feat when one considers we had the largest cohort of pupils sitting for matric exams.
“The top pupils are a dream for any teacher and for any education system worth its salt. Today, I am proud to say our top matric pupils are the absolute embodiment of what we call true ambassadors of public schooling. A meritorious position earned not hereditary,” she said.Motshekga said being a top pupil affirmed the importance of foregrounding hard work ahead of the reported glamour of short-lived shortcuts.
“As a nation, we must celebrate our winners because they demonstrate the values of honesty, resilience and tenacity. For an emerging economy like ours, passing matric may raise the hopes of parents that their bundles of joy may unshackle their families from the generational shackles of poverty,” Motshekga said.Today, we are flaunting the best of the best and you could overcome the odds, including the load shedding.
