The M1 and M2 highways in Braamfontein and Johannesburg CBD have been closed to traffic due to mass action by members of the South African Municipal Workers Union .
“Approximately 10 000 Samwu members have blocked off the M1 and M2 in Johannesburg over wage disputes,” says Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department spokesperson Xolani Fihla. The members have blocked off the M1 in both directions at Smit Street in Braamfontein and in both directions on the M2 in Selby, causing heavy traffic disruptions. Rissik Street/Selby exit on the M2 WestLaw enforcement is on high alert, with officers deployed to ensure public safety and manage disruptions.Southern Courier posted this video earlier today:
