Former President Donald Trump will address a crowd of supporters in Dubuque, Iowa, on Wednesday as he faces backlash over a recent comment on abortion.
Trump said Gov. Ron DeSantis's decision to sign a six-week ban on abortion was a"terrible thing and a terrible mistake," seemingly backtracking on his historically anti-abortion stance.Trump also declined to state whether he supports a federal 15-week ban on abortion, which several challengers, including Sen. Tim Scott , have endorsed.
The comment has earned him criticism from hardcore anti-abortionists, including Gov. Kim Reynolds , who stated that protecting an"innocent life" is never a"terrible thing." It’s never a “terrible thing” to protect innocent life. I’m proud of the fetal heartbeat bill the Iowa legislature passed and I signed in 2018 and again earlier this year.Nearly 80% of likely Republican caucusgoers consider themselves anti-abortion, according to the Des Moines Register.
