Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) will hold a press conference in Largo, Florida, on Monday afternoon while Tropical Storm Idalia is expected to become a hurricane on Tuesday in the Gulf of Mexico and reach the Sunshine State midweek.
Evacuations are being issued from Pinellas County to the north central Florida counties, with DeSantis warning residents to prepare for a major weather event by stocking up on supplies.
DeSantis will be joined by Florida Division of Emergency Management Director Kevin Guthrie, who warned Tropical Storm Idalia could become a Category 4 as it approaches the state. Attorney General Ashley Moody and Maj. Gen. John Haas, the adjutant general of Florida, will be in attendance.DeSantis is scheduled to speak at 1:45 p.m. Eastern time at the Pinellas County Emergency Management office.
