The taxi association was apparently enacting a ritual to remember slain colleagues.
Cleveland SAPS station commander Col Mpe Lobisi Motaung confirmed on Wednesday that members of an unknown taxi association gathered at the corner of Cumberland and Allum streets in Edenvale earlier in the day and fired live ammunition into the ground and air, reports theThe area was still cordoned off early on Wednesday afternoon. Motorists were advised to find alternative routes through the area.
Chief Supt Wayne Minnaar, the spokesperson for the JMPD, commented that he was not aware of the incident or the escorting of taxi drivers.
