The Florida division of Waste Pro is hosting a one-day hiring event for drivers, driver trainees, mechanics and technicians.

This comes as curbside recycling will be returning to Jacksonville on April 4, about six months after it was paused.Applicant Johnathan Lee walked through the doors after hearing about the job opportunity from a family member.Lee said he’s ready for something new.

“I’ve been doing security and everything else, and I’m kind of tired of being in one little spot,” Lee said. “I want to get out and move around a little bit more.”Waste Pro leaders said they’ve been in a bind for about two years, as the nationwide staffing shortage has been felt right here at home.There’s are also sign-on, retention and referral bonuses up to $5,000.

The demand for qualified drivers and helpers continues to outpace supply.

Drivers and helpers are eligible for safety awards of up to $10,000, with qualified drivers able to earn $10,000 and helpers, $5,000.
