'The government stole my pension!': WASPI woman says she's lost £40k in scathing video
A WASPI woman who says she was 'robbed' of £40,000 due to the rise in the state pension age for women has dubbed those responsible 'thieves' in a scathing video online.
Bev, a former youth support worker, 64, says she only found out that the state pension age for women had been hiked up when she was in her mid 50s.She told Lancs Live that, having done her calculations recently, she believes she lost out on £40,000 from the change. Unaware that the state pension age for women had been increased, the former Bury resident said: “I hadn’t been employed for the period of my children growing up, and that’s why I didn’t get the memo, about them changing the pension age, so it all came as a massive shock, when I figured it out. They stole the right to my pension, if that makes sense, because instead of bringing it down to 63, they took us all up to 65.
She continued: “I wanted to get people to actually say, hey you did steal our pension. What about women who are in a position where they can’t claim anything and they’re not in a position to work, and they haven’t got a partner? They’re really, really struggling. We are coming up to a winter where people can’t put their heating on. I fear for my grandchildren as well because their pension is not going to be in existence… The future is scary.
"I’m in the prime time of my life at this point and I could be helping so many others, but I’m stuck in a place having to earn money, I feel robbed and I feel that I should be out there making sure everybody else is ok. I’ve lost the whole of the last four years… it’s my time of life, and it’s gone. What could I have done with that £40,000? I’d have enjoyed it and I’d have felt like I’d got it because I'd earned it.
