As heavy downpours continue to wreak havoc on parts of the country, the Ekurhuleni DEMS warns that the anticipated rainfall could bring a risk of flooding in areas prone to floods in the city.

Photo: Sanparks.Several years ago, flooding in Ulana informal settlement forced residents to flee their homes. “Our rescue teams were also dispatched to Zonki Zizwe after reports of people suspected to have drowned while trying to cross the Natalspruit River, which had burst its banks. The rescue operation was, however, called off on Sunday after the teams could not find the suspected drowned people,” explained Ntladi.Ntladi pointed out that floods are likely in the low-lying areas under the railway bridges in several parts of the city, including Boksburg, Germiston, Brakpan and Springs.
