Neighbours say cops had no option but to shoot and kill a knife\u002Dwielding man who attacked a woman in Scarborough over the weekend.

The SIU is now investigating the police shooting Saturday afternoon at a home on Midland Ave., north of Kingston Rd.

Police spokesperson Stephanie Sayer says the suspect was still in the house with a child when police arrived. She says the man was shot by police and the child has not been harmed.that the woman is alive today because of the quick action of police and other first responders. They said police were faced with split-second, life-or-death decisions.Article content

What they did know is the four-year-old boy was believed to be alone inside with the suspect who witnesses say was covered in blood and was seen carrying a knife in front of neighbours who tried to help the frantic victim. The boy was rescued unharmed..“He was so upset. He was screaming,” said a witness.
