“It was almost like we went through two heartbreaks. Losing in the state championship before we got into the championship game hurt our guys a lot. It’s not the way they wanted to end that tournament. Once again the Govs had the conference player of the year. This time it was Dothan’s Cason Eubanks. Once again the Govs had the conference pitcher of the year. This time it was Headland’s Reigh Jordan. And once again the Govs had the conference coach of the Year who just happened to be Ihle once again. Or as he jokes, “the conference line-up maker.”
“Those things are something that I am super proud of for our guys, and they should be proud of themselves,” Ihle said.“It was always there,” Ihle said. “Mackey did a tremendous job with this program for the past 25 years. I think we’re starting to reach new heights which is really cool and I’m proud to be a part of that. But the foundation was already there.
“I’ve learned a lot. I’ve always told everybody you don’t ever know exactly what a head coach has to go through until you are sitting in that seat. Now that I’ve been able to sit in this chair for two years I’ve learned a lot.
