The Walking Dead comic has used more than its fair share of weapons to kill off the undead, with crossbows being a rare tool for a good reason!

In the brutal and harrowing world that is The Walking Dead, using any kind of weapon, from a gun to a sword to a bat wrapped in barbed wire to something as simple as a sharp stick, can become a deadly tool in the right hands. But one type of zombie-killing utensil, the crossbow, isn’t seen as often in comics, with an official reason for why that is finally revealed!

Getting great mileage out of their signature weapons in the series — Michonne and her katana, Rick and his trusty hatchet, Negan and Lucille, Andrea and her sniper rifle, and more — it was only a matter of time before the use of a crossbow would enter the conversation, with the simple fact that there aren’t a lot of them being the main reason for why fans don’t see them all that much in the comic space.

Making complete sense that most people simply don’t have access to crossbows en masse like they do guns, sharp weapons, or blunt force objects, and additionally, would have trouble stocking up on the weapon and its ammo after the outbreak, the idea of a crossbow and its reusable ammo is a tantalizing one, especially when any kind of firearm would need a constant resupply of bullets to stay useful.

Crossbows Are Effective But Not Readily Available in The Walking Dead Comics And even though the original character of Daryl Dixon from The Walking Dead TV show prides himself in using a crossbow and is almost always brandishing one in battle, this is a slightly more forgivable sin in the live-action space if only because the visual alone of him sniping a zombie from dozens of yards out or stabbing one through the head with one of his bolts is something the filmmaking medium couldn’t pass up if...
