Wales have lost two key experienced members of their backline for the World Cup warm-up match against the Springboks in Cardiff on Saturday.

Warren Gatland on Wednesday named a heavily-changed matchday-23 to face the world champions, from the side that did battle in back-to-back Tests against England.

However, Wales confirmed on their social media channels on Thursday evening that the two most experienced members of the backline – Dan Biggar and Liam Williams – have had to withdraw from the Test due to injury. Flyhalf Biggar is struggling with a back issue, while fullback Williams is not being risked over hamstring concerns.

Instead, 22-year-old Scarlets star Sam Costelow will earn just his second start at flyhalf in his fifth Test appearance, while 24-year-old Cai Evans will make his Test debut at fullback. Scarlets outside back Tom Rogers has been called onto the bench and will win his fourth cap if he comes onto the field.
