Following new timeline reveals in Tales of the Jedi, one has to wonder if Count Dooku and Darth Maul were working together around The Phanom Menace.
Based on recent Star Wars timeline reveals, the possibility exists that Count Dooku might have been working with Darth Maul, Palpatine's first apprentice in the Skywalker saga. As seen in the animated Tales of the Jedi anthology series which revealed Dooku's past with the Jedi Order and his corruption to the dark side, it's learn what Dooku was up to during the events of The Phantom Menace. As such, there's some overlap where Palpatine had both Maul and Dooku in his service.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY Having become increasingly disenfranchised by the Jedi Order and their complacency with the Republic's growing corruption, Dooku began distancing himself from the Jedi Order while secretly being in league with Darth Sidious, who offered him the chance to "restore order" to the galaxy.
Tales of the Jedi episode 4 confirms Dooku betrayed Sifo-Dyas and took over the commission of Kamino's clone army for Palpatine, covering it up by erasing the Jedi Archives' data. This was at the same time his former apprentice Qui-Gon Jinn had returned to the Jedi Temple after fighting Maul on Tatooine.
Did Dooku And Maul Work Together? Due to the careful nature and amount of time it took to turn Dooku to his cause, it seems doubtful that Palpatine would have outright introduced his Sith apprentice to the count. However, Dooku was probably smart enough to realize that Palpatine had other agents in his service, confirmed when Qui-Gon gave his report to the Jedi Council.
