The situation brought national media attention and scrutiny to Fredericksburg, a Hill Country town of 11,000 people about 70 miles north of San Antonio. The limited nature of the current election — the county is administering only the Fredericksburg Independent School District's board races, as the city of Fredericksburg is administrating its own municipal races — has made things easier, Brown said, as have the lessons learned from November.
