Spending city funds to essentially gift an entranceway to deep-pocketed developers while taking away a slice of local history is the wrong way to find open space in the Square.

The alley curves around and brings pedestrians to Magnolia Avenue and Pavonia Avenue where two towers are planned. Many of the residents of those new buildings will undoubtedly walk through the alley to get to Kennedy Boulevard and the Journal Square Transportation Center’s PATH trains.for the project, from 2017, included the developer’s plans to spiff up the alley but no mention was made of expanding it by taking down 50 Journal Square.

We applaud the city for thinking out of the box in an effort to get much-needed open space in the Square as it becomes more and more crowded.
