Volvo Car South Africa has issued a recall for three vehicle models after discovering several issues that could impact the safety and functionality of the cars. The automaker notified the National Consumer Commission (NCC) on January 31, detailing the potential risks associated with specific models, including the XC90 and XC40 . The affected vehicles include the XC90 , with models sold in January 2023 and October 2024, and the 2024 XC40 .
The most critical concern for the XC90 sold in January 2023 involves a software flaw in the brake control module, which in rare instances could result in a loss of braking support. For the XC90 model released in October 2024, Volvo found that a rod connecting the brake pedal to the booster may have been improperly assembled. If this rod detaches, the brake pedal could fail to function properly. The 2024 XC40 faces an issue with its turn indicator system, where the left rear indicator could temporarily stop working. Volvo urges owners of the affected models to contact their dealers as soon as possible to arrange repairs
