Virginia players and coaches held a two-hour memorial service for Devin Chandler, Lavel Davis Jr. and D’Sean Perry, their teammates who were killed last Sunday in a shooting. The team shared stories, memories and tributes about the three Saturday.
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Saturday’s memorial at the University of Virginia was only scheduled for an hour.
Saturday, their legacies were on full display. Williams and Virginia coach Tony Elliott both shared remarks about the players, but 11 of their teammates also spoke to the crowd of 9,075 at John Paul Jones Arena about their memories, some of which took place just last week.“You were always the first player in the end zone to celebrate when someone scored. Your energy could light up every practice,” running backsaid.
But Davis loved it and Gaines told the story of when Davis shared why he had “187” tattooed on his arm.
